Welcome to the Kereone Rugby Sports Club

History
Originally formed in 1919 from returned soldiers (including many Gallipoli veterans), Kereone takes its name from an estate cut up and offered by the government for settlement by returned servicemen .

The Kereone Rugby Club enjoyed tremendous success throughout the nineteen twenties and thirties, with the senior team winning the championship for an amazing 12 years in a row and the juniors winning eight years out of nine during this period.

It was in the nineteen fifties and sixties however, that Kereone that could lay claim to being arguably the strongest club in New Zealand, regularly defeating Otahuhu (Auckland’s then top club).

For the 3 years from 1958 Kereone did not lose a competition game and this was achieved even when supplying up to eight players for the Waikato representative team.

From the late fifties and early sixties Kereone produced two all Black captains, three All Blacks, eleven Waikato representatives, two Waikato presidents, a Waikato selector, a Waikato and New Zealand manager and a New Zealand president.

Kereone is immensely proud of its traditions and history which have earned respect both nationally and internationally.

The club continues to maintain the values that have been instilled by past generations and to provide a supportive environment for present and future generations to enjoy their sport.

Club Facilities
The clubrooms feature a spacious carpeted social area with dance floor and large-screen television.
In addition, there is the Clarke Lounge which can provide a quieter, relaxed environment in an atmosphere complimented by a display of rugby memorabilia.

The bar (about to undergo renovation) will be modern and very serviceable and there is a large fully equipped kitchen.
The clubrooms are available to hire (free to members) and provide an ideal venue for wedding receptions, 21sts, meetings and other social gatherings. Naturally the clubrooms are not always available for Saturday hireage during the rugby season.

The club also has beach volleyball courts available for hire.
