Kereone Silvester Electrical Senior A - 18 June 2011 | |
Kereone Silvester Electrical Senior AKereone Silvester Senior A's travelled to Tokoroa to play Southern United at their home ground and it was Kereone that started well by putting first points on the board with a 70 metre run away try to Kierian McCarthy who had snatched up ball from a ruck fended off several United players and dashed toward the line pursued by a desperate chaser. Buoyed by the sideline support,he made it to the line to score a fine individual try. United were stunned and were desperate for points and found the Kereone defence hard to break through for some time. But break they did and Kereone conceded a couple of push over tries to United. Scrummaging practice at training paid off as United had to concede at least 3 tight-heads to the experienced front rowers and although strong tackling through-out the game United still managed to get through the defensive line to score 26 points in the first half. Once again the Meerkerks brothers, Kerry and Lewis had strong go forward with ball in hand and were always at the front when ,for a period of 10 minutes ,Kereone hammered at the line for no reward. Tom Chapman-Smith, Nigel Leeson and Paul Osborne gave stable service to the flankers and held up the opposition mauls but the polished back line from United saw them score a further 3 tries in the second half to bring up the full time score of 45 - 5 . Player of the day went to McCarthy. |
